‘South Park’ hates ‘Family Guy’
April 6, 2006
Latest episode of ‘South Park’ was revolved around the boys getting into a fight and going on a trek to Hollywood because of the Fox show ‘Family Guy’. South Park Studios says:
Suffice to say that if Matt Stone and Trey Parker are talking about ‘Family Guy’, it’s not gonna be real flattering. They’ve been pretty open about their disdain for the show and Seth McFarland. This quote is from Wikipedia:"Cartman and Kyle are at war over the popular cartoon, ‘Family Guy.’ Kyle loves ‘Family Guy’ and hates Cartman. The two boys embark upon a mad chase across the country and the fate of ‘Family Guy’ lies with the first boy to reach Hollywood."
"When questioned about the meanest thing anyone ever said to them, Stone replied ‘When people say to me, God, you guys have one of the best shows on television. You and Family Guy. That fucking hurts so bad’, to which Parker agreed: ‘Very well said. It’s such a kick in the balls.’ "In fact almost everyone in town looks down on ‘Family Guy’, which is generally thought of as clever but basically just a composite of other peoples work. It’s like a Puff Daddy song, just samples of stuff other people created patched together. The most egregious example being Stewie. The blog familyguysteals puts it like this: "It may seem odd that Stewie looks and sounds absolutely nothing like the rest of his family, but not when you remember that Seth McFarland steals other peoples ideas. He doesn’t even have the decency to alter them the slightest bit. The cartoon (below) is called Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth, and it was drawn in 1996, three years before the premier of ‘Family Guy’. Artist Chris Ware created the character in 1991. In 1999, Entertainment Weekly magazine wrote this:
Comic-book fans have been buzzing about a certain familiarity they’ve noticed recently: namely, that Stewie, the football-shaped-headed child who loathes his mother and invents diabolical weapons on Fox’s Family Guy, bears a striking resemblance to a comic-strip character: Jimmy Corrigan, the Smartest Kid on Earth, a football-shaped-headed child who fears his mother and invents things to escape from her."
The old God wasn’t really working out, so Matt and Trey are my new gods, and if they tell me to hate ‘Family Guy’, I’m gonna hate ‘Family Guy’. Obviously the show is clever and well done, but so was my plan to put the brain of a Great White shark inside a 60 foot robot. Oh sure, now I realize it was a bad idea.

Right, South Park hates Family Guy…
Don’t suppose you picked up on the issue over the depiction of Muhammed in that episode, eh?

Yeah, indeed they hate Family Guy. It was all about a war against Family guy.
Hope they will air the second episode next week on that as they said.

I think it’s just jealousy on the part of South Park. About Seth Macfarlane being the highest paid writer on television, Family Guy’s DVD sales, and its major network support and promotion in general. They can accuse him of stealing ideas, but cartoons do that. Homer Simpson was a modern day Fred Flintstone. You can talk about where the idea for Stewie(or other characters) came from… it doesn’t change the fact there are 50 or so original jokes in a Family Guy episode that are much funnier than anything South Park has ever offered. If South Park were better than Family Guy it would have been picked up by a major network. Oh but they wouldn’t sell out… lies… they would, the offer just isn’t there. It’s jealousy, plain and simple.
