ATI launches first 1GB card
April 4, 2006The world’s first graphics card with 1GB of memory has been unveiled by ATI Technologies.
The FireGL V7350 is an ‘ultra high-end’ card featuring 1GB of graphics double data rate 3 memory. It will cost about £1,100. The card also comes in a 512MB edition, the FireGL V7300, which will cost about £900. Based on 90-nanometer process technology, the cards use a 512bit ring bus memory architecture, and are targeted at CAD, digital content creation and imaging professionals who work with large datasets.
According to ATI, the high clock rates of the new cards, combined with full 128bit precision and high levels of parallel processing, produce a floating point processing power that is seven times faster than a 3GHz Pentium processor. The cards also feature ATI’s Avivo video and display enhancing technology for improving visual fidelity in the professional graphics market. It offers automatic gain control, gamma correction and increased colour bit depth.
